I’ve asked myself this many times. Why do I stay fit and is there really a purpose to what we are trying to do. One of the hacks to life is to never get fat. But sometimes things just get in the way. We are pulling all nighters. Partying too much and then are hungover and have no motivation. And we can’t pull ourselves out of the cycle.
As we age, the weight just keeps piling on. We quit thinking about it until we get some bad news from the doc. Then shock sets in. You look at some old photos of how you used to look. That’s when you realize what you done. So now your motivation is high you want to lose it all. 2-3 weeks go by and it’s back to how you have been for the last 20 years.
This story is how most people live.
But in our little corner of the internet, we realize what we don’t want out of life. I’m not going to be 124 years old (yes, that is what I’m shooting for) all shriveled up and not wanting to do anything. I want to be still conquering mountains right up until the day that I die. If I die on the mountain peak, all the better.
There are a thousand reason to stay fit and active. Not the least being that it keeps you moving forward. Modern life for most people is this ever stagnation of self. One day they sit down and never get back up. When I look at older folks, you can tell the ones who never got back up. They can’t move, on every pill in the docs script book. Then you look at an 80 year old who moves like they are in their 50’s. And you are awe inspired.
This happened to me the other day. I was driving around town and a 70+ person was out running. He had a better body than 99% of people out there. Strapping shoulders and maybe 10% body fat. It was an encouragement. I couldn’t get my phone out quick enough to snap a pic of him. But if I can be him when I’m that age, I will consider it an accomplishment.
Being fit is about more than exercise
You want to get the most out of life. Then be below 18% body fat for a man. Why? Because you keep moving. You can’t be more than 18 percent and be moving all the time. You have to be disciplined in today’s society. You have to work at it. And there is nothing more fun or hard than busting your ass to get where you want to be.
The successful person is the one who never stops. I can’t tell you how many times I wanted to stop. Wanted to not do an extra rep or two. No more sprints god damn it. Then I threw up and did another one.
Train Hard, Conquer Nature
That is my motto. I love to conquer time and space. It makes me feel alive when I’m swimming against a current or go straight up the side of mountain and looking down and knowing the whole world is underneath me. I want to be able to do that my entire life.
Why do you train hard?
